NaNo Planning – Setting the Scene

Today I forced myself from my other work to NaNo prep (or perhaps it was the other way around) and had a look into political systems.

My world is based on political strife. I have learned so much about it this morning and have a far better idea about it than before. In fact, I think I would like to open with a scene to reflect the pathetic police force and the reign of gangs in my world. I did a lot of looking into the Thailand situation that is currently going on and it is very interesting. I am filled with excitement, now knowing where and how my characters live. I can feel myself dipping into a new way of thinking (theirs) and it is very exciting!

I have to have a look into gangs a bit more to try and understand how that would work. Another day I think.

Is anybody else looking into the setting of their stories?

  1. I think there’s a lot of info on gang culture, so it’s great you’re starting your research now! My setting is my old hometown, so I’m just delving back into my memory and trying to describe my old haunts to the best of my ability. Good luck!
